As well as playing in my own bands, playing for and with other bands and projects and founding a charity in 2005, back in the day I wrote articles for a variety of music magazines. This came about because I had a job selling ad space for a very well known UK publishing company. I hated the job and left in 1986, aged about 25, to follow my dream of becoming a professional musician. However, the editor of the magazine, whom I got on quite well with, asked me to write some articles on playing Jazz guitar, which of course I enjoyed immensely. Eventually this magazine started a pull out section dedicated to the guitar and I was asked to interview people and contribute other elements to it. This pull out eventually became the month The Guitar Magazine, for which I wrote a regular column called Private Lessons. With this series I interviewed many many top players, asking them about their style, techniques, influences and other nerdy guitar stuff. I spoke to Mike Stern, John McLaughlin, Eric Johnson, George Benson, Al Di Meola, John Scofield, Reb Beach, Paul Gilbert and many many more. It was really fun, and full of information. I really hope you enjoy these interviews, which range from around 1988 to about 2014?

I also wrote for Melody Maker, Making Music, Guitarist and once or twice for Guitar Techniques. I'll start up loading the PDF's here, probably one a month, so please click on the heading and you should see the PDF, which you can download.

I'm very proud of the articles I wrote, and I've been incredibly fortunate that people like Tony Horkins and Tony Reed (editors of International Musician and Recording World) gave me an opportunity. Thanks to them and also Paul Quinn, Dave Hunter, Neville Marten and Mike Brown.
